UOIT Donor Awards

Donor awards provide a valuable and lasting resource for students in post-secondary studies. Application instructions for these awards are available on the MyCampus student information website, under the UOIT Student tab. The following is a list of the awards given by donors to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology for students. The amounts of each award may vary from year to year. The following awards are donated annually by organizations, companies and individuals for UOIT students:

Antonio and Ida Albis Award
The Antonio and Ida Albis Award is available to students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology each year with financial need.
Award Value:  $500

The Jeanne and Dr. Ted Culp Memorial Award
The Jeanne and Dr. Ted Culp Memorial Award is available to third year  students in the Bachelor of Nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 3.5, who demonstrate the quality of bedside excellence.
Award Value:  $500


Durham Filipino-Canadian Society Award
The Durham Filipino-Canadian Society Award is given out to students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology each year.
Award Value:  $1000

Echoscan Entrance Award
The Echoscan Entrance Award is given to two first year students in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science who demonstrate academic excellence.
Award Value: $1000

Grace Fund Bursary
The Grace Fund Bursary is available to a female Durham Region resident, in full time studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in the second semester of first year, with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to mature students.
Award Value: $2700

Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Award
The Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce Award is available to a third year student in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The successful candidate must have demonstrated commitment to the community.
Award Value: $500

Hubbell Canada Award
The Hubbell Canada Award is available to an Ontario resident in their second year of full time studies in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, or the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value: $1000

Jack Howett Award
The Jack Howett Award is available to UOIT students in the field of Nuclear Sciences with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value:  $500

Messier-Dowty Scholarship
The Messier-Dowty Scholarship is awarded annually to the full time UOIT student with the highest GPA in the Mechanical Engineering program in the previous academic year.
Award Value:  $500

Robert D. N. Prichard Award
The Robert D. N. Prichard Award is available to UOIT students in the Faculty of Science.
Award Value:  $500

Vickie Knox Award
The Vickie Knox Award is available to UOIT students in the third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program in good academic standing.
Award Value:  $500

Wilson Furniture Award
The Wilson Furniture Award is available to a UOIT student in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology in the Bachelor of Commerce program. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and demonstrated involvement in volunteer and community work.
Award Value: $1500

Jim Witty Award
The Jim Witty Award is available to a student who has graduated from an Ajax High School and is attending UOIT, who demonstrates financial need. The student must have obtained a 75% average in their last year of high school and participated in interschool athletics and other school activities.
Award Value: $1600

The Province of Ontario has established programs to provided financial support for Ontario University students in full time studies. These programs, first the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund, and now the Ontario Trust for Student Support, provide matching funds for donations made to our institution. The funds generated from these programs are invested, and the returns provide awards for students. The award amounts will vary from year to year as returns will fluctuate. In order to qualify for the awards, students must meet the following basic criteria:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Ontario resident
  • Registered in a full time post-secondary program approved for funding by the Ministry of Education and Training
  • Demonstrate financial need

Baagwating Community Association Award
The Baagwating Community Association Award is available to full time UOIT students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students of Canadian Aboriginal descent.
Award Value: $500


CIBC Entrance Bursary
The CIBC Entrance Bursary is available to first year UOIT students in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology with a minimum average of 75% in their last year of high school.
Award Value:  $3000

Alexander and Stephanie Dulemba Award
The Alexander and Stephanie Dulemba Award is available to a student who is in their second year of full time studies.The successful candidate will have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated leadership in student life on campus.
Award Value: $1000

Durham Region Chairman's Award
The Durham Region Chairman's Award is available to full time UOIT students.
Award Value: $1000

Durham Region Chairman's Scholarship
The Durham Region Chairman's Scholarship is available to full time students at UOIT who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.8.
Award Value: $1000

Farr Chambers Award
The Farr Chambers Award is available to a student at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in the Faculty of Education, with a minimum cumulative average GPA of 3.0.
Award Value: $800

Flaherty, Dow, Elliott and McCarthy Award
The Flaherty, Dow, Elliott and McCarthy Award is available to students in full time studies in the Faculty of Criminology, Justice and Social Policy Studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Award Value: $400

M.J. Gerrow Award for Excellence in Patient Care
The M.J. Gerrow Award for Excellence in Patient Care is available to a student in full time studies in their third year of study in the DC-UOIT Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. The successful candidate must demonstrate caring and compassion as a bedside nurse, effective and valuable skills as a team member, safety as a practitioner, and leadership in the field of nursing.
Award Value: $1200

The Michael Gourley Bursary
The Michael Gourley Bursary is available to full time students at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
Award Value:  $750

HSBC Bank Canada Awards
The HSBC Bank Canada Award is available to third or fourth year full time students in the Faculty of Business and IT in the Bachelor of Commerce program. Successful candidates must have demonstrated academic achievement and involvement in community service.
Award Values:  $1500 and $1000

Herman Kassinger Award
The Herman Kassinger Award is available to students in their second year of full time studies in one of the following faculties: Business and Information Technology, Energy Systems and Nuclear Science, Engineering and Applied Science, Health Science, or Science and Education. The student must have a minimum average GPA of 3.0 and have demonstrated leadership in student life on campus.
Award Value: $1000

Lenovo (Canada) Inc. Access Awards
The Lenovo (Canada) Inc. Access Awards are available to full time students in any faculty. Preference will be given to:  visible minorities, women, persons with disabilities and aboriginal peoples. Special consideration for the award will be given to students who are in the first generation of their family to attend postsecondary education and/or sole support parents.
Award Value:  $1000

Bruce MacMillan Memorial Award
The Bruce MacMillan Memorial Award is available to a student in their first year of study in the Manufacturing Engineering program. Preference will be given to a female student.
Award Value: $400

Ontario Power Generation Award
The Ontario Power Generation Award is available to students in full time studies in the the School of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science.
Award Value: $1200

The Lois and Gary Polonsky Award
The Lois and Gary Polonsky Award is available to students in full time studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value:  $1000

Schneider Electric Award
The Schneider Electric Award is available to students in full time studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value: $1000

Scotiabank Group Award
The Scotiabank Group Award is available to students in full time studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value:  $1000

The Lois Sleightholm Award-Consecutive Education
The Lois Sleightholm Award-Consecutive Education is available to students in the Faculty of Education in the Consecutive program. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of the Municipality of Whitby.
Award Value: $1600

The Lois Sleightholm Award
The Lois Sleightholm Award are available to students in the Faculty of Education, in either the Consecutive or Concurrent programs. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents of the Municipality of Whitby.
Award Value: $800

The Howard Maitland Sly Award
The Howard Maitland Sly Award is available to students who have graduated from Durham College and are now attending UOIT.
Award Value: $1000

Strickert Family Bursary
The Strickert Family Bursary is available to students in their second year in the Nuclear Engineering program in the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science who display citizenship and leadership. The award is given to the student in three installments of $500 in their second, third and fourth years of study in the Nuclear Engineering program.
Award Value: $1500

The Paul Vessey Award
The Paul Vessey Award is available to students entering the Bachelor of Commerce degree program in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology from the Durham College-UOIT Bridging program. The successful candidate must have obtained a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the Bridging program.
Award Value: $2000

Victoria Legacy Bursary
The Victoria Legacy Bursary is an entrance award for students with a minimum average of 75% in their last year of high school.
Award Value: $500

UA Local 463 Award
The UA Local 463 Award is available to full time, first year UOIT students with a minimum of 75% average in their last year of high school. Preference will be given to family of UA Local 463 Plumbers, Steam Fitters, Welders and Apprentices members.
Award Value:  $400

The Marjorie Elizabeth Willoughby Award
The Marjorie Willoughby Award is available to UOIT students with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to Durham Region residents who are sole support parents.
Award Value: $6500

The Neighbourhoods of Windfields Farm Award
The Windfield Farm & Tribute Community Award is available to UOIT students in full time studies in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Award Value:  $1000

The Xerox Canada Award
The Xerox Canada Award is available to a full time student in their second year in the Faculty of Business and Information Technology with an minimum average GPA of 3.0.
